Baking soda is a powerful antioxidant, antibiotic, and an anti-inflammatory agent, so it eliminates bacteria, restores the balance of the skin, and detoxifies it.

However, Dr, Jaishree Sharad, a dermatologist based in Mumbai, explains:

“Baking soda exfoliates and reduces oil. It may help in reducing comedones (clogged hair follicles in the skin, such as blackheads or whiteheads). But it can dry the skin & alter the [skin’s] pH, making the skin more sensitive. If one has very oily skin and is not using any other creams that cause the skin to dry, one may mix baking soda with honey to exfoliate and reduce blackheads.”
